We take pride in creating a space that feels like a second home—a place of true peace, comfort, and warmth.
On a crisp Autumn day in 1972, David Horner walked into Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home and asked Mr. Ed Hooper and Mr. Earl Huddleston for a job. For David, a student at Tennessee Tech, working at the funeral home was a godsend, providing funds for college and a chance to pursue a life-long calling. David and wife, Jill, purchased the funeral home and were privileged to add "Horner" to the name in 2002. Sons, Jason Horner, a TTU graduate and Brad Horner, a Union University graduate, are poised to shepherd our mission of Honor, Help and Hope into the future.
Since 1940, when Jack and Emma Ruth Carver opened Carver Funeral Home, our facilities have been the setting for countless gatherings where friends and families have shared tears, laughter, fond memories and have started the healing process together. When Ed Hooper and Earl Huddleston purchased the funeral home and changed the name to Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home in 1955, they continued to provide a sense of warmth, peace, comfort and closing to scores of Putnam County families. Today we strive to continue that mission at all our locations including Baxter and Monterey and by serving the community with our Family Event Center in Algood.
Our staff is privileged to have received the National Funeral Director's Association's Pursuit of Excellence Award for ten consecutive years, and has earned a permanent place in NFDA's Pursuit of Excellence Hall of Fame. We were are members by invitation of Selected Independent Funeral Homes, one of the most respected professional associations of funeral homes in the world.
