Zina Mitchell

Funeral services for Mr. Zina Mitchell, age 95 of Brentwood, TN, and formerly from Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Bro. Clarence Deloach will officiate.

His family will receive friends Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Mitchell died Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Morning Pointe of Brentwood after several years of battling vascular dementia.

He was born March 29, 1927 in Cookeville to the late Zina Mitchell, Sr. and Nannie B. Mitchell.

Zina was a Radioman Third Class with the U.S. Coast Guard for a short while toward the end of WWII. He worked for Wilson Sporting Goods, beginning in 1948, in various capacities, including a 7-year stint in Irvine, Scotland, and ended his career as Cookeville plant manager in 1985.

He was a member of Willow Avenue Church of Christ until moving to Brentwood in 2018.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Bonnie Hawkins Mitchell; brothers, Donald (Louise), Frank (Peggy), Harvey (Dottie); sisters, Mildred Hall (Dexter), Margaret “Bobbie” Townsend (Bud), Louise Bartlett (Harold), and Nancy Galdenzi; sisters-in-law, Dolores Hawkins Dockery (Charlie), Elwanda DeLaune (Bernie).

Mr. Mitchell is survived by son, Mike Mitchell and wife Glenda; daughters, Sandi Mitchell, Debi Tucker and husband David; grandchildren, Jodi Tucker Wiley (Matthew), Lynsi Tucker Hartman (Randy), Autumn Fletcher Potter (Heath) and Amber Fletcher Vaughn (Trey); great grandchildren, Samuel, Nathan & Caleb Hartman, Ryman Wiley, Hattie & Eden Potter; Brother-in-law, Jim Hawkins (Barbara); special niece, Trudy Wheeler (Earl) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Steve Hawkins, Jeff Hawkins, Chris Hawkins, Bruce Dockery, Mark Wheeler and Stephen Wheeler will serve as Pallbearers. Larry Dockery, Matthew Wiley, Randy Hartman, Heath Potter and Trey Vaughn will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family of Mr. Mitchell would like to thank the staff of Cedar Hills Senior Living, Cookeville and Morning Pointe of Brentwood for the loving care of their dad over the years.
