Zachary Thomas Schonborn

MONTEREY CHAPEL - Zachary Thomas Schonborn, born on September 18, 2001, and unexpectedly taken from us on December 1, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia, was a beacon of kindness and resilience. A proud graduate of Monterey High School in 2020, Zachary exemplified dedication and passion throughout his life.

Following high school, Zachary honored his commitment to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, where he made a lasting impact as a cook. His culinary skills and unwavering dedication earned him respect among his peers and superiors alike. Just a week before his untimely passing, Zachary reenlisted for an additional five years, a testament to his love for the Navy and his desire to contribute further. He was looking forward to returning to Northern Virginia to take over responsibilities at the local hospital, a role he was eager to embrace.

Zachary was not only defined by his career but also by the warmth he radiated in his personal life. He was known for his kind heart and generous spirit, always ready to lend a hand and "give you the shirt off his back." His playful and provocative nature often kept his siblings on their toes, and he possessed a unique ability to push their buttons, bringing laughter and joy into their lives.

Beyond his military service, Zachary found fulfillment in various hobbies and interests. He was a proud member of the Broken Arrow Motorcycle Club, a community that resonates with healing, camaraderie, and brotherhood. Together with his fellow members, Zachary embraced their mission to honor service and support one another through shared experiences and memorable rides.

Tragically, Zachary's life came to an end due to a motorcycle accident caused by a hit-and-run motorist. His sudden departure left priceless memories that will forever be treasured by many who loved and cherished him.

He is survived by his devoted parents, Kevin and Shannon Whipple; his compassionate sister, Margaret Schonborn; and his loving brother, Simon Whipple. He is also mourned by his aunt and uncle, Deborah and Stephen McKethan; his cousin, Brayden McKethan; as well as his maternal grandparents, Charles and Bobbi McGee, and paternal grandparents, Raymond and Katherine Whipple.

A memorial service honoring Zachary will be at 10 a.m. Monday December 16 at Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Interment with military honors will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery. Visitation for friends and family will be Sunday from 3-6 p.m. and again Monday from 9 - 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Broken Arrow Foundation. www.tbafus.org

Zachary Thomas Schonborn will be remembered not only for his service and dedication but for the love and joy he shared with those around him. His spirit continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
