Funeral services for Mr. Winnell Howell, 86, of Cookeville will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 6 at Eastwood Baptist Church in Cookeville. Rev. Bob Pharris and Rev. Clint Walker will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 pm until service time at the church. Mr. Howell died Monday, November 04, 2013 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville. He was born December 2, 1926 in Cookeville to the late Dillard and Ina Stults Howell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Martin Howell; sister, Lorene Howell; and brother-in-laws Delbert Elrod and Lillard Maxwell. Mr. Howell was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a longtime faithful member of Eastwood Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and usher. Mr. Howell was employed at Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, MI and returned to Cookeville where he worked at Hometown IGA prior to retirement. He enjoyed bowling and watching Atlanta Braves baseball. Mr. Howell is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Ramsey Howell; daughter and son-in-law, Samantha and Richard McCowan of Cookeville; step-son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Judy Bates of Algood; three sisters and brother-in-law, Dimple Elrod of Baxter, Willene Maxwell, Joyce and Bobby Bean, all of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Courtney and Austin McCowan; and nephew, Mario Bean and wife Lisa. Pallbearers will be James Nabors, Gerald Tinch, Jim Hall, Harold Howell, Joe Burnett, Charles Gotardy, Estle McCowan, Mario Bean, and John Scott.
