Winifred Joann Dubeck

Winifred “Winnie” Joann Dubeck left this earth knowing just how loved she was. She passed away on June 28, 2024, at her home in Baxter Tennessee. Born in Cheverly Maryland in 1949, she spent most of her life in the Washington D.C. area before relocating to Tennessee a few years ago.

As the oldest of nine children, she cultivated her maternal instincts early on as her caring and generous spirit was felt by all who knew her. She was able to see both the best and worst in us and loved us fiercely, despite our shortcomings. Her laugh was hilarious and infectious. She reminded her family and friends to laugh at ourselves, to be responsible but not to take ourselves too seriously. Winnie had a quick wit, lots of patience and she loved with her whole heart. Her family all felt she was their confidant, supporter and trusted advisor.

She worked in real estate with her father, and later operated a furniture business with her late husband. After his passing, Winnie transitioned back to a career in real estate where she met a true best forever friend. At the time of her retirement, she held the title of Multi Unit Underwriter at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Her love for family was infinite. She leaves behind countless family and friends including daughter, Barbara and husband Earl, son Bob and wife Ellen, and stepdaughter Helene and husband Jeff. She cherished and adored her grandchildren Alexandra, Maxwell, Luke (Taylor), Rachel, Jake (Ella), Alexis, Lindsey, Becky (Jacob), and her precious great-granddaughters brought her enormous joy and lots of laughter.

Winnie’s loving siblings include Buddy and Liz Edwards, Kathy DeCesaris, Lenny and Chrissy Edwards, Margaret and Michael Fleming, Mike and Tina Edwards, and Kenny Edwards (Joanne). Her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and cherished friends will miss her wisdom, wit and compassion.

Whether at the ocean, on the river, lake or poolside, Winnie loved the water and considered those her favorite hangout spots. She taught many in her family to swim. She loved her dog, Molly. She valued laughter and she loved to dance. You can’t hear a song by Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles or anything with a great dance beat and not think of her. When we were young, she explained that if you can’t keep up with the song “Wipeout” you are in big trouble. We all strive to perfect her signature dance moves.

She will continue to be a pillar of strength for our family and a role model for us to strive to emulate.

Winnie was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Mildred Edwards, and sisters Patricia Edwards and Elizabeth Hartman.

Later this summer, Winnie will be laid to rest with her late husband, Phillip Dubeck, at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Maryland. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks for family and friends to gather to honor this remarkable woman.
