William Howard

Funeral services for Mr. William Henry Howard, age 88 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, November 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Algood Heritage Cemetery. Rev. Diantha S. McLeod will officiate. Mr. Howard's family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. He died Tuesday, November 7th at Bethesda Health Care Center. He was born October 6, 1929 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Virgil Howard, Sr. and Ethel Howard. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. Following his military service, William attended college and received his LPN Licensure. He worked at Cookeville General Hospital as a LPN for many years. He also worked for J&S Construction as a roofer. Howard formerly attended McClellan Avenue Church of Christ and was a longtime member of Burton's Chapel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed singing and spending time in nature enjoying God's creation. He loved to read his Bible and knew the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty L. McClellan Howard; second wife, Jeanetta Hayes Howard; son, Timothy Howard; daughter, Freida McClellan; sister, Beulah Howard; and brothers, Virgil Howard, II and A.V. Darty. He is survived by daughters and sons in law, Rhonda and Kenny Fielder of Gainesboro and Susan and Wayne Weaver of Knoxville; son, Barry Howard of Chattanooga; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; stepchildren, Roger Hayes of Cookeville, stepdaughters and son-in-law, Connie Hayes Farley of Algood and Charlene and Lonnie Wells of Nashville; four step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
