William Eugene Gunter

December 6, 1952 — August 5, 2021

William Eugene Gunter, 68, went to be with the Lord Aug. 5, 2021, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a kind, loving son, brother and uncle, and his family and friends treasure the joy he brought to their lives. Despite limitations he faced in life because of his disabilities, he was happy, generous and special in every sense of the word. Everyone who knew him loved him. He had a little wonder and mischief in him, but his heart was pure. We should all be so lucky to be remembered this way. William was predeceased by his parents Willis Eugene and Peggy Dilldine Gunter and his brother Bobby Ray Gunter, his niece Vallie Rae Hardaman, nephew Dakota James Gunter and great-niece Kaylee Rhoads. He was the grandson of the late James and Bertha Gunter, of Cedrom, Alabama, and William Orby Dilldine and Gladys Martin Maddux of Cookeville, Tennessee. He is survived by his sister Linda Faye Gunter and niece Sarah Jane Hardaman, all of Birmingham, Alabama; great-uncle Melvin Martin of Cookeville, Tennessee; aunt Faye Lee (Bob) Cathers of Sterling Heights, Michigan; niece Katie Gaines (Cedric) and great-niece and nephew Kimberly and Kaleel, of Columbia, Missouri. He also will be missed by his friends and caregivers at the ARC of Central Alabama Men’s Home where he lived. Graveside services and interment will be 10 a.m. Monday Aug. 9 in Allison Cemetery in Putnam County, Tennessee. Friends were invited to pay their respects and sign the guest book Monday 9-9:30 a.m. at Dyer Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19 precautions, social distancing measures were in place. Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home (931)526-7158 was in charge of arrangements.
