Willard Overstreet

d. July 18, 2018

Willard Cal Overstreet, age 84, of Cookeville, met his Lord and Savior face to face surrounded by his loving family on July 18, 2018. He was born November 13, 1933 to the late Estel Claude and Minerva Asborne Kennedy Overstreet at Davidson Mining Camp in Fentress County, TN. He was one of fourteen children. Willard was a very quiet, humble man who loved Jesus, his family and his church. He never liked the spotlight or to have his deeds acknowledged by men; he believed that what he did for the Lord and people in secret, God would reward him openly one day in Heaven. His deep spirituality, integrity and faithfulness to Jesus spoke loudly, not with words, but by the way he lived his life daily and by the way he loved his family unconditionally. After serving his country in the Marine Corp. from 1953-1956 aboard a ship in the Mediterranean Sea, he worked for 37 years at the Delman Co. where he retired in 1994. He had one son and three beautiful daughters that were the beat of his heart: Michael Overstreet, Sherri (Kevin) Allen, Sandy Overstreet and Pamela (Shane) Warren. He also enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Jessica Phillips, Laura Beth Boles, Randi Brooke Redman, Christopher Adam Warren, Tiffany Rice, and Mireya Grace Allen, Audrey Phillips, Alli Phillips, Braylin Boles, Ezra James Warren. He left them a strong legacy of faith and family that will provide solid foundation for their future success! The love of his life was his wife and sweetheart, Oleta. She has stood faithfully by his side for over 59 years and tended to his every need, especially the last few years as he battled his illness. Willard loved Oleta fiercely, holding her hand until the last moments of his life. Willard made a decision in 1964 that Jesus would be his savior and his portion forever. He received Jesus as his Lord and was baptized by Pastor Raymond Young at the First Baptist Church in Algood, Tn. He loved his Pastors and his church, Trinity Assembly of God, where he faithfully worshipped the Lord and supported his local church's vision. His greatest desire in life was that his family would serve Jesus and that the world would hear the good news that Jesus loves them through the preaching of God's word. We will greatly miss him, but the impact of his love and life upon all of us has left a divine fingerprint that will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday July 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Turner and Pastor Shane Warren officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Willard's family will receive friends Thursday from 5- 8 p.m. and again Friday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111 You may share your thoughts and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
