This wasn’t the way any of us imagined celebrating Wayne’s 75th trip around the sun. He was
our rock and we aren’t sure what life will look like without him by our side. He was the most
amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend that you could ever know. He
was an avid fisherman, carpenter and builder of all things, cook, and most importantly, a
dedicated family man.
Those that knew him well knew you could often find him in one of his favorite places, on the lake
with a fishing pole, sitting around a campfire listening to the croonings of Uncle Marvin, building
in his workshop, playing Santa Claus for children and senior citizens, watching a movie with his
beloved wife, or soaking in the love of his children and grandchildren.
He loved being on the lake with a pole in his hand. He not only loved fishing, he loved the
people that he shared the time on the lake with, his mother, siblings, uncle, and honestly anyone
else who joined in on the fun.
He could build or fix anything and was a millwright by trade. He retired from Kellogg’s with 35
years of service, and founded the Kellogg’s Millwright Apprenticeship Program. He also served
as the Union Steward on the Central Safety Committee for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cheryl Goss, his adoring siblings, Ginny Lynne
(Sandy) Poteet and Kent Goss. His heartbroken children, Kristin Yarnell and David (Jessica)
Goss, and two grandchildren, Lilly and Logan Yarnell. His mother and father both preceded him
in death and we are thankful they are with him now.
Family and friends will celebrate his life and mourn this unbelievable loss on Tuesday, August
1st, 2023 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home located at 798
South Willow Avenue in Cookeville, TN. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and continue until the
time of the service at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to share memories during the service. Graveside
will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Alpine.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift to the charity of your choice.
