Wayne Burton

Funeral services for Wayne Eugene Burton, age 86 of Algood, will be 3 p.m Wednesday July 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Bond will officiate. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. His family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time. Wayne passed away Saturday July 16, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1936 in Claiborne County, TN to the late Stephen Decatur Burton and Della Lenoir Oxford Burton. Wayne worked for AFLAC insurance for many years. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Later in life, he added golf to his hobbies. He is survived by three sons, Stanley (Cindy) Burton of Cookeville, Jeff (Tammy) Burton of Eagleville, TN, and Chris (Denise) Burton of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Eric Burton, Michael Rutledge, Alex Burton Taylor, Brittany Burton, and Caitlin Burton; ten great grandchildren; and his former wife Sylvia Burton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years and mother of his children, Mary Dixon Burton; and brothers, Doyle and Carl Burton.
