Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia "Nana" Gibson, age 100 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday, March 11th at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Cookeville. Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery. Pastor Danny Hembree and Dr. Martin Thielen will officiate. She left this world for Heaven Friday Morning, March 9, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Virginia's life was defined by her favorite scripture: LOVE NEVER FAILS, 1 Corinthians 13:8. Her family looks forward to celebrating her life with friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Hooper- Huddleston & Horner and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. She was born March 2, 1918 in Corona, Alabama to Murray Wright and Arminda Lawrence Wright. She was a graduate of West Jefferson High School and Massey Business College in nearby Birmingham. She met the love of her life, Joe Gibson in 1941 while working at Dixie Optical Company. They soon married and started the large family named below. Virginia worked as an office manager for Dr. Kenneth Haile and in various other medical offices in Cookeville. She is remembered also as a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Cookeville House and Garden Club, Cookeville Methodist Women and the Cumberland Art Society as well as the Nantahala River Rats Raft Club in Andrews, North Carolina. "Nana" lived a life full of fun, adventure and unconditional love for others. She brought a sweet spirit and contagious smile everywhere she went. A faithful member of First United Methodist Church since September of 1949, she was honored as Queen Mother in 1984 when she was described as "active and vital" in her church life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Gibson; and by sisters, Lucille Wright and Katie Mae Wright Pickett. She is survived by daughter, Ella Gibson Anderson of Nashville; sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Amy Gibson of Cookeville and Joe and Carol Gibson of Andrews, NC; grandchildren, Ella Haile Dunn, Tamara Mashburn, Christy Hogsed Glenn, Brian (Crystal) Travis, Alex Gibson, Beth Gibson, Tim (Jennifer) Hogsed, Ivy Gibson (Peter Ormerod), Emilee Rector and Maggie Rector; great grandchildren, Karley Dunn, Chance Mashburn, Bailey Hogsed, Morgan Glenn, Zack Hogsed, Ansley Hogsed, Hunter Travis, Ava Travis, Gavin Travis, and Gibson Carl Lee Williamson, many loving great nieces and nephews and by special friend and caregiver, Sarah Blessing and her third son Danny Hembree. Alex Gibson, Brian Travis, Austin Holt, Dillon Dillahunty, Chance Mashburn, and Tim Hogsed will serve as Pallbearers. Bailey Hogsed will serve as a very special Honorary Pallbearer.
