Virgil Howard

Funeral services for Virgil Howard, age 83, of Algood will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010 from the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home with burial to follow in Heritage Cemetery in Algood. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 3 from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home chapel. Mr. Howard passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at NHC of Cookeville. He was born August 11, 1926 in Louisville KY to the late Virgil Howard Sr. and Ethel Coleman Howard. Virgil was a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed. Many people have enjoyed his talent as a Cook and Nick’s Restaurant. He was a veteran of the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Bro. Howard was a member of the McClellan Ave. Church of Christ. Mr. Howard is survived by one brother, William Howard and wife Jenetta of Algood and a very devoted friend, Roger L. Holt. He is also survived by a devoted and faithful niece, Rhonda Fielder, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ann Roberts, Mary and Charlie Western, Carrie Roberts, Jean and Estes Strode, Dewitt Howard and Harrison Roberts, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Opal Roberts Howard, Mr. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beulah Howard, and one brother and sister-in-law, A.V. Darty and Louise Darty. Pallbearers for the service will be William Ervin, Roger Farley, Raymond Lockett, Damond Western, Floyd Cartwright, and Marciano Roberts. The women of the McClellan Ave. Church of Christ will serve as Flower Girls. Reverend Robert Utley and Brother Andre Massingil will conduct the services. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the funeral home to help with Mr. Virgil’s funeral expenses.
