Monterey Graveside services and interment for Violet Cate, age 102 of Cookeville and formerly of Monterey, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday December 9 at Welch Memorial Cemetery. TJ Overstreet will officiate. Mrs. Cate passed away Monday morning December 7, 2020 at Bethesda Health Care Center. She was born October 13, 1918 in Scott County, TN to the late Earl and Lessie Adkins Creekmore. Mrs. Cate was a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church and former member of Monterey First Baptist Church. She was an artist with several of her paintings on display throughout the local area. She enjoyed watching sports especially golf, baseball, and basketball. An avid golfer herself, she enjoyed playing regularly. Mrs. Cate is survived by two daughters, Elaine Pegram (fiance, Bob Freeman), Merilyn (Larry) McNabb all of Cookevllle; grandchildren, Eric (Lynnette) Pegram, Jonathan Pegram, Joseph E. (Yeyen) Pegram, John (Nichol) Vaden, Louie (Marcia) Vaden, Greg (Tonya) Vaden, Ivan Overstreet, and TJ (Casey) Overstreet; and great-grandchildren, Monica, Dustin, Cypress, Dylan, and Finnegan Pegram, Elias (Emily) Vaden, Alex, Daniel, and Nicholas Vaden, Will, Oli, Ike, and Catey Overstreet, Brittney (Brock) Greanya, Brandon and Brooklyn Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cate; and sister, Olive Akin. Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
