BAXTER CHAPEL-Veronica Jean Helms, affectionately known as "Pat," passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at her home in Elmwood, Tennessee. Born on November 17, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Veronica dedicated 25 years of her life to serving at the U.S. Corps of Engineers, showcasing her unwavering commitment and work ethic.
Veronica's passions extended beyond her career. She was an avid lover of antique cars, fascinated by their history and elegance. Her fondness for animals, especially cats, brought joy to her life, and she enjoyed hunting for treasures at yard sales. A true fan of classic Westerns and Elvis Presley, Veronica often found joy in immersing herself in her favorite films and music. Furthermore, she cherished her time spent collecting dolls, each piece holding a special place in her heart.
Veronica's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her three sons, Eddie (Beth) Davis of Baxter, Carl "Bug" Davis of Detroit, Michigan, and Christopher Burchett of Baxter. Additionally, her precious daughter, Cynthia (Trinity) Phillips of Baxter, along with her two brothers, Edward Davis of Cookeville and Marvin (Connie) Davis of Buffalo Valley, Tennessee, and two sisters, Theresa (Alex) Romero and Robin (James) Hawn, both of Cookeville. The family also reflects the joy she brought into the world with 13 grandchildren: Paige Davis, Ariel Smith, Angelique Hayden, Damian Davis, Andrea Martinez, Lee Martinez, Josh Martinez, Teresa Martinez, Daniel Davis, Wyatt Burchett, Isaac Phillips, Kaiden Phillips, and Carmine Phillips. Veronica is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren, who will carry on her spirit and memories.
Veronica was predeceased by her parents, Herbert Eugene and Marilyn Clair DeCaussin Davis, her husband, Michael Wayne Helms, who departed on September 15, 2023, her son, Carlin Kirby, and her grandson, Michael Martinez.
Her family invites all who knew Veronica to celebrate her life during the visitation services to be held at Baxter Chapel, located at 532 4th Street, Baxter, TN, on March 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on March 23, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A funeral service in her honor will also take place at Baxter Chapel on March 23, 2025, at 4:00 PM. Elder Rick Hall will officiate. Burial will follow in Smellage Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Carl Davis, Damian Davis, Ed Davis, Marvin Davis, Daniel Davis, Carmine Phillips, Isaac Philips, and Kaiden Phillips.
