COOKEVILLE -- Graveside services for Verla Elizabeth Gentry, 85, of Algood, will be held today, Sunday, July 6, at 3 p.m. at Cookeville Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of services at Dyer Funeral Home. Mrs. Gentry died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Pickett County to the late Roy Trammel and Ida Smith Hinds. Mrs. Gentry was a member of Midway Christian Church. She was a seamstress at Cherokee Furniture. Her family includes two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dana Gilreath of Cookeville and Judy and Rick Sampley of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Lucille Huddleston of Battle Creek, Mich., Kathryn and Sam Coward of Algood, Nellie and Bill Diamond of Allons, and Pauline and Charles Keisling of Livingston; a brother and sister-in-law, Kirby and Cheokyo Hinds of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Emily Brubaker, Julie McMullen, Kyla Gentry, Silas and Willy Gilreath; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Dawson Gentry; and a son, Ronnie Dawson Gentry. Rick Sampley will officiate the services.
