Vera Loftis

Funeral services for Mrs. Vera May Loftis, age 76, of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday August 7th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bro. Nolan Cantrell will officiate. Vera's family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. She passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at her residence. She was born January 9, 1942 in Byrdstown, TN to the late Wayne and Willie Smith Riley. She lived in Indiana and Michigan and moved from Ohio to Cookeville in 1987 upon her husband's retirement from General Motors. Vera is described as a special soul, a great and positive person who put the well-being of others before her own. She was a gifted homemaker who enjoyed sewing and cooking. She was a talented singer and guitar player. She attended Hilham Road Freewill Baptist Church and Brotherton Freewill Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Aron Paul Loftis; daughter, Cathy Jackson and husband Bill of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Bennie Loftis of Cookeville; grandchildren, Mandy Loftis, Erica Martinez and husband Juan, Blake Loftis and wife Sandra and Hayley Jackson; and by greatgrandchildren, Mia Martinez and Annabelle Loftis. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Her family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Katherine Bertram and Kindred Hospice for their excellent and loving care given to her.
