Vay Vickers, Jr.

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Vay Vickers, Jr., a cherished resident of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was 94 years old. Born on August 6, 1930, in White County, Tennessee, Vay lived a life dedicated to his family, his work, and his community.

A floor specialist by trade, Vay was known for his expertise in working with various types of flooring, demonstrating an admirable work ethic throughout his career. His commitment to quality and craftsmanship was evident in every project he undertook, earning him respect and admiration from clients and colleagues alike.

Vay was an active member of Post Oak Presbyterian Church, where he found a sense of community and belonging. He was someone who brought warmth and kindness to those around him, reflecting a personality that engaged with life on many levels.

He enjoyed a multitude of hobbies that showcased his diverse interests and talents. An avid golfer, a gardener, and a skilled woodworker, Vay also took great pleasure in listening to music and playing his guitar. Known as a jack of all trades, he embraced opportunities to learn and explore new skills.

In his passing, Vay leaves behind his devoted daughter, Debra Hargis of Cookeville, as well as his brothers, Billy Vickers, David (Tomi) Vickers, and Richard (Linda) Vickers. He is also survived by his sisters, Juanita Bartlett, Lola (Wheeler) Boles, and Donna (Tommy) Palk, along with his cherished grandchildren, Deana Hargis and Heather (Kyle) Story.

Vay was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty June Vickers; his son, Michael Vickers; and his parents, Vay and Opha Lois White Vickers; and his siblings, Emogene Burgess, Jimmie Ford, Julia Zurawski, Bennie Cole, Bobby Vickers, Johnny Vickers, and Rodger Vickers.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Vickers will be held at 2 PM Sunday, April 27, 2025 from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Barnhart officiating.

Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery with Johnny Meadows, John Meadows, Joe Boles, Bryan Boles, George Scott, and Clyde Allen serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be nieces and nephews, along with members of Post Oak Presbyterian Church.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8 PM and again on Sunday from 12 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.

The legacy of Vay Vickers, Jr. will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
