Vanta Greenwood

d. May 11, 2019

On May 11, 2019, Vanta Leigh (Jones) Greenwood of Cookeville, 56, went home to be with her Savior. Born in Dayton, Ohio on May 22, 1962 to Ivan and Gail Jones, she grew up in the nearby town of Miamisburg. She graduated from Miamisburg High School in 1979 before attending Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, the alma mater of her parents. In 1982, she married Scott Melhuish, who was serving in the Navy at the time. Because of his military service, they made their first home in Iceland. They later relocated to Florida and Knoxville before returning to Cookeville, where she remained after his death. In 1994, she married Ronald Greenwood of Cookeville. She worked as manager and bookkeeper of several businesses in the Cookeville area. They were devoted members of Stevens Street Baptist Church, where she often volunteered to assist with activities such as the children's choir and Vacation Bible School. While their sons were playing sports, they often coached and managed the team. In addition to her first husband, Scott, her parents also preceded her in death. Her husband, Ronnie Greenwood, and three children survive her: Natasha Melhuish (Jeff) Schumacher of Hemingford, Nebraska; Joshua (Andria) Greenwood of Cookeville; and Jacob Greenwood of Durango, Colorado. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Pamela Caskie, of Sevierville, Tennessee. She is also survived by six grandchildren, on whom she doted -- Brenna, Raegan, and Wyatt Schumacher of Hemingford, Nebraska; and Ivan, Ariana, and Marabella Greenwood of Cookeville. Several surviving aunts, cousins, and nephews enriched her life as well. The family also recognizes and thanks Angel Buckner and her family for the care and dedication provided to Vanta throughout her illness. Vanta loved her birthday. Therefore, a special Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on that date, May 22, 2019, at Stevens Street Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
