COOKEVILLE CHAPEL- Mr. Tommy Gerald Bradford, who left this world on December 23, 2024, at his residence. Born on August 1, 1948 in Cookeville, TN, Tommy was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Tommy dedicated 30 years of his life to teaching English Literature at Upperman High School, where he inspired countless students with his passion for literature and history. He was a proud 1966 graduate of Cookeville Central High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech University, laying the groundwork for a career filled with remarkable achievements in education. After retiring in 2000, he continued to share his love for learning and nurtured curiosity in those around him.
Tommy was not just an educator; he was a devoted family man. For 54 wonderful years, he shared his life with his wife, Sue Ellen "Suzy" Bradford. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. He took great pride in his daughters, Andrea Bradford and her son William Rains and Sara Bradford and husband Chad Pittman and their children Adda Grace, Lucy, Posey, and Finnly Pittman. Tommy's love for his family was evident in everything he did; he adored his grandkids and was always eager to share stories, experiences, and most importantly, his unwavering support. He is also survived by a brother, Phillip Bradford; a sister, Teresa Wright; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Bradford and Louise Frazier Bradford, and his precious grandson, Carter Dre Pittman, whose memory he took with him.
A gifted musician, Tommy spent many hours playing the guitar and writing songs, a testament to his creative spirit. His love for music intertwined beautifully with his interest in history, and he often found inspiration in the tales of the past that he loved so much.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tommy's life at Faith Chapel Ministries in Baxter, TN, on Friday, December 27, 2024. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Chad Pittman, his son in law, and Pastor Steve Warren will officiate.
