Tom Minnear

Funeral services for Thomas Odean Minnear, age 86, of Cookeville will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday August 31 at Dyer Funeral Home. Bro. Frank Rogers and Bro. Dow Allen will officiate. Interment will follow in the Browns Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m until service time. Mr. Minnear passed away Wednesday morning August 28, 2019 at his home. He was born March 8, 1933 in White County, TN to the late Frank and Betty Kirby Minnear. Mr. Minnear was a member of Double Springs Community Church. He was a farmer and formerly worked at Bowser in Cookeville. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lavada Gambrell Minnear (whom he married September 1, 1956 in the Gentry Community of Putnam County); daughter, Elaine (Jimmy) Chaffin of Cookeville; two sisters, Linda Maxwell of Cookeville, Carol (Bill) Halfacre of Granville; two brothers, Jim (Judy) Minnear of Marion, IN, Ken (Linda) Minnear of Cookeville; three grandchildren, Sara Ferguson of Livingston, Tommy (Rebecca) Phillips of Cookeville; Jonathan Chaffin of Cookeville; eight great-grandchildren, Daniel and Abigail Lancaster, Bailey and Eli Phillips, Gregory, Liam, and Levi Ferguson, and Charlee Chaffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mattie Ellen Minnear; and brother, Don Minnear. Pallbearers will be Darin and Tim Minnear, Ronnie Birdwell, Daniel Lancaster, Brook and Doug Halfacre. Dyer Funeral Home is both honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Minnear.
