Tina Matheney

d. December 23, 2017

Ms. Tina Marie Matheney, 57, of Cookeville died Saturday morning, December 23, 2017 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born September 12, 1960 in Dayton, Ohio to Jarvis Matheney of Cookeville and the late Elaine Stafford. While she was born in Dayton, OH, her father brought her and her brother to Cookeville in the early 1960's where her grandparents, Jarvis Matheney, Sr. and wife, Susie (Phillips) Matheney and Aunt Gene Evelyn Warren helped raise Tina and her brother. Tina was a United States Army veteran serving in the 1980's. She worked in real estate management in Dayton, OH and in Cookeville for 20 years. She had returned to Cookeville to plan for her retirement in February 2017. To Cookevillians, she was still a "Cookeville native" and was well-loved and known by many here even though she had not lived here since 1977. She was active in and loved Girl Scouts, was an exceptional athlete, and loved nature, animals, and travel. In addition to her father, Tina is survived by two daughters: Amber Matheney and her husband, Felipe Serrano of Dayton, OH, and Christina Curry of California; one son, Michael Allen Reed of California; three brothers: Lewis Matheney and his partner, Gary Lee of New York City, NY, Chicago, IL and Stockton, NJ, Stephen McClain and his wife, Nicole, and Richard Matheney all of Miamisburg, OH; step-sisters, Laura Ray and Kathy Wilson and her husband, Ray; stepbrother, Mark Montgomery, all of Cookeville; grandchildren: Lauren Matheney, Jordan Isham, Selena and Felipe Serrano Jr. all of Dayton, OH, Michael Isham, Adrianna Curry, Lewis Gary Reed and Shamar Reed all of California; aunt, Gene Evelyn Warren of Cookeville; nephews: Elliot Ray and his wife Vanathi, Bill Matheney and his wife Amanda, and Thomas McClain and his wife, Janna Lynn; and a niece, Stefany McClain. Services will be held at a later date.
