Tim Goryl

Timothy Patrick Goryl, beloved son of Dr. Stephen and Jeanette Goryl died at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Tim was born January 18, 1971 in Bossier City, Louisiana where his father was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. The family then transferred to Keesler AFB at Biloxi, Mississippi. The next move was to Royal Oak, Michigan where his dad completed residency training in 1977. At last the family moved to their permanent home in Cookeville, Tennessee. Tim entered first grade at Capshaw Elementary School and continued through high school in Putnam County schools, graduating in 1989. He attended the University of Kentucky before transferring to Tennessee Tech where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English and Journalism.

During high school and college Tim always had summer jobs even spending two summers as a fishing guide and fly shop manager in Livingston, Montana.

Through the years, fishing and caring for his animals were passions. He traveled widely throughout the United States with his family.

Tim's first job out of college was with the newspaper in Clinton, Tennessee. He returned to Cookeville to work at the Herald-Citizen in several positions. He worked at other businesses in Cookeville until he had a stroke and was declared disabled.

Through the years Tim faced many chronic medical challenges with amazing courage that amazed his medical providers and his family.

In addition to his parents, surviving family includes sister, Kathleen Rebecca Goryl of Louisville, Kentucky; uncles, Carl (Mary Jane) Goryl, Michael (Christine) Goryl, David (Karen) Goryl; and aunt Cecelia (Barry) Allen. He was preceded in death by uncle, Patrick (Betty) Goryl; aunt, Veronica Goryl; and grandparents, Louis and Lucy Hendrix, Stephen and Veronica Goryl.

There will be a time of visitation for family and friends on Tuesday, August 27 from 5pm to 7pm at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home, and again Wednesday from 10am to 11am at Cookeville First United Methodist Church. A memorial service honoring Tim will begin at 11am Wednesday at the church. Private interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and due to Tim's love for adopted pets, the family suggests donation to the Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501 or God's Grace Food Pantry at Cookeville First United Methodist Church, 165 W. Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501.
