With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Theda Belle Maynard Brown, our loving, devoted, and strong-willed mother, friend, and Granny on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Theda Belle Maynard Brown was born in Putnam County, Tennessee to Shirley and Oma Leona (Cole) Maynard on May 12, 1931. Theda attended Nursing School in Nashville, TN where she became a Registered Nurse and received the Florence Nightingale Award for her exceptional disposition and service to others. Theda was a skilled nurse, serving those she loved and her patients far beyond what was expected. She worked for Dr. Charles A Mitchell for many years, and she remained lifelong friends the local doctor. She was instrumental in developing a hospital in White County, where she served as Head Nurse for the hospital until 1982. She often recounted tales of her days in the hospital, where she enjoyed helping deliver babies and assisting with surgeries. She then worked at Centennial Hospital in Nashville until retiring after 40 years in the nursing field. Theda enjoyed spending time with her siblings, children, and grandchildren. She also loved to take vacations to Florida and travel when she could. A farm girl at heart, Theda also had a passion for gardening and working on her family’s farm, even late into life. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph Frank Maynard and sister Elizabeth O’Connor. She is survived by her son Chris (Jerri) Brown, daughter Mary (John) Judd; grandchildren Jonathon (Kristin) Riggsbee, Sam (Katie) Riggsbee, Whitney Judd and Amanda Cantlin; great-grandchildren Jack Riggsbee, Desmond Riggsbee, Auggie Schotsch, Norah Leigh Riggsbee, Milo Riggsbee, Huxton Riggsbee and Caylee Bussell; Sister Ruby (Jerry) Jones of Houston, Texas; Brothers Kenneth (Betty) Maynard of Bon Aqua, TN and Carlyn (Betty) Maynard of Crossville, TN and several nieces and nephews. All of whom loved her dearly and will never forget her wit, tenacity, and love for each of them. The family would like to convey their appreciation to the staff at Kindred Hospice, A Caring Heart, and Ansley Phifer for the care rendered to Mrs. Brown. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday December 27 at Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro.Roy Whited will officiate. Interment will follow at Allison Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time. Please practice social distancing and the use of masks are encouraged.
