Emma Sue G Dotson Boyd went to her heavenly home with Jesus on October 6, 2023, at the age of 85. She was surrounded by the loving arms of her family and passed in the comfort of her home in Cookeville.
Sue is survived by her children, James (Jedd) R. Dotson Jr. (Teresa), Karen Dotson-Wheeler (John), Jennifer Dotson-Creter (Mark), and Catherine (Cathy) Shultz (Josh). Her grandchildren, Jeremy Dotson (Amanda), Callie Higgs Huffman (Jason), August (Gus) Creter, Daniel, Emma, and James Shultz, Allison Ledford (John) and Benjamin Wheeler. Her great grand-children, Stella, Evelyn, and Atticus Huffman, and John Ledford. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James J. George III; husband, James R Dotson, and husband, Jerry M. Boyd.
Sue was born on July 8, 1938, in Greenville, SC to James and Alethea George. She married James Dotson, in 1955. The couple had four children over two decades. Years after the death of James, Sue met and married Jerry Boyd in 1991. The two enjoyed twenty-eight years of marriage until Jerry’s passing in 2019.
Her children thank her for teaching them how to love others, feel compassion despite differences, and maintain strength through adversity.
Sue was passionate about her love of God and Jesus. She was a generous and dedicated individual who loved children and her church. Sue was an educator for over thirty years, leading numerous preschool and elementary classes in multiple schools throughout Putnam County. She was an active and devout member of First Baptist Church. With over sixty years of membership, Sue allowed God to use her in a variety of roles. This provided her the opportunity to touch the lives of countless individuals. She was thankful to the church for providing an opportunity for her to be of service.
The Funeral Service is scheduled for Monday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at First Baptist Church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Mrs. Sue. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to First Baptist Church’s Children’s Ministry or Tennessee Tech University James R Dotson Memorial Scholarship of Kappa Delta Pi. The family would like to thank the Caris staff, especially Kailee, Sarah, Shanda, and Anita for their care and love.
