Sonya Carver

December 29, 1969 — January 12, 2023

Sonya Monique Carver was born on December 29, 1969 in Cookeville, TN. She was affectionately known by her loved ones as “Peaches.” Sonya was the oldest of three children born to Sandra Jane Carver.

Sonya was educated in Putnam County Tennessee and later attended Cookeville School of Cosmetology. She was a successful cosmetologist and make-up artist. Her creativity and talent became recognized and she later established her very own private clientele, as she would travel to their home and create her magic.

Sonya marched to the beat of her own drum throughout life. Everyone she met loved and adored her. She was well known in her neighborhood and everywhere she went. She possessed an infectious signature laugh that would brighten up any room she was in. Sonya loved shopping, fashion and keeping herself up. She was a good cook and didn’t mind preparing a meal for you. She was a true southern girl at heart, sweet, kind and generous. She valued her loving relationship with her family and was a very devoted aunt. She would give you the shirt off of her back, that’s just the type of person she was. Sonya wore many titles, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, cousin, and friend. She leaves a void too big to be filled.

She departed this life on January 12, 2023.

Her grandparents, Isaac and Nina Carver, uncles Lon Danny (Trapper) Carver and Robert Dawson and stepfather Hugh Hancock, all proceeded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her mother, Sandra Hancock. Two children Sgt. Amanda Carver and Solon Carver. Three siblings: Nakeisha Conn, Christopher (Kisha) Hancock, and Alicia Carr. Two dedicated aunts: Sarah Dawson and Mildred Carver Garrett. One uncle: Ricardo Carver. Two nieces: Ziyana Conn and Kailey Rose Hancock. Two nephews: Christopher (CJ) Hancock Jr and Robert Burrell Jr. One great-aunt: Elizabeth Bohannon. A special cousin Nina Garrett. Her fiancé, Raymond McMillon and a host of cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, January 25th at 1pm at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.  Her family will receive friends Wednesday from 11am until service time at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Algood Heritage Cemetery.
