Funeral Services for Mr. Arthur "Shorty" Daniel, 87 of Cookeville, will be held Sunday September 8 at 3 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Dr. Charles McCaskey officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends Sunday from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Daniel died Thursday September 5, 2013 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1926 in the Willow Grove Community of Clay County, Tennessee to the late Lloyd Edward and Edna Grimsley Daniel. Shorty's family was one of many families that had to relocate due to the building of Dale Hollow Dam and Lake. Shorty was 16 at that time and told how he and other family members hurriedly harvested crops as water began to cover their boots. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. He served as a tank driver in the European Theatre and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for the local Amoco distributor in Cookeville for 45 years, most of that time as division manager. Shortly was an active member of Cumberland First Presbyterian Church for 68 years serving as church treasurer for 40 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Emogene Daniel and Keeble Sutton Daniel; son, Ronnie Daniel; and sister, Elise Buford Hodges. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Daniel; four grandchildren, Jack (Fran) Daniel, Barry (Missy) Daniel, Melissa (Cris) Crannigan, and Brandon Daniel; eight great grandchildren, Meredith, Molly, and Clay Daniel, Tyler and Kyla McDermott, Zech and Emma Crannigan all of Cookeville and Justin Daniel Ringgold, GA; and his sister, Louise Smith of Crossville. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elders at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Active Pallbearers will be Earl Nichols, Lee Webb, Mike Davidson, Lannie Knight, Pete Weber, John Benedict, Phillip Wynn, and Don Holloway, JR. Memorial contributions may be made to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church 565 E 10th Street, Cookeville, TN 38501.
