Shirley Gaw

Mr. Alvin Shirley Gaw, well known local businessman and philanthropist, passed away Saturday evening September 25, 2021 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday September 29 at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ. Bro. Andy Brewster and Bro. Mark Gaw will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. His family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 3 - 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time. Shirley was born January 26, 1935 in Cookeville, TN to the late Roy Gaw Sr. and Eula Mae Malone Gaw He was a member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and was a former member and elder at Smyrna Church of Christ. Shirley and his brothers owned and operated Gaw Brothers Produce for many years. Ever the entrepreneur, Shirley also pursued his interest in real estate development. Survivors include his son, Dr. Randy (Katherine) Gaw of Cookeville; two daughters, Deborah (Donny) Meadows and Darlene Gaw all of Cookeville; six grandchildren, Josh Meadows, Chelsea (Arash) Gaw Nazhad, Matthew (Casie) Meadows, Abby (Brad) Wood, Bradford Gaw Killmon, and Lindy (Tyler) Williams; great granddaughter, Elle Williams; siblings, Roy Gaw Jr., Velma Ferrell, Paul (Jeanette) Gaw, Evelyn (Larry) Burgess, and Jack Gaw; and his beloved canine companion, Molly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera Ann Gaw; and brothers, Howard and James Gaw.
