Sarah Funk

Funeral services for Sarah Jo Funk, age 78, of Fort Payne, AL and formerly of Cookeville, will be held 10 a.m. at Dyer Funeral Home. Dr. Charles McCaskey will officiate. Interment will follow at Shipley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Dyer Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time. Mrs. Funk passed away Sunday evening March 31, 2019 at Dekalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, AL. She was born August 27, 1940 in Sykes, TN to the late Carl Edwin and Kathleen Beatrice Apple Agee. Sarah grew up in Smith County. She attended Cookeville High School. After high school, she was a homemaker and later owned and operated several different businesses. Sarah married the late Harold Cecil Funk in 1991 in Cookeville. They were happily married for 20 years. Sarah was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, painting and crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemary Steakley; and grandparents, Walter and Edna Apple. She is survived by two sons, Rory Mitchell Smith (Betsy) of Fort Payne, AL and Joel Smith of Cookeville; daughter, Jill McAllister (Donny) of Cookeville; sister, Betty Gail Fraizer of Lewisburg, TN; grandchildren, Bryan Smith, Gregory Smith, Jared Koon, Caleb Smith, and George McAllister; and great-grandkids, Jack & Cecilia Smith.
