Sandra Tweed

June 28, 1958 — September 15, 2020

Mrs. Sandra Maceyko Tweed, age 62 of Cookeville, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at her home. She was born June 28, 1958 in Washington, PA to the late Frank Maceyko and Jo-an Shunk Maceyko. Sandra grew up in Savannah, GA, and attended Beach High School, where she was a cheerleader. At age twelve, she knew that she wanted to help people and work in the mental health sector after watching family members suffer. After graduation from high school, she studied psychology at Presbyterian College, attended graduate school at Georgia Southern and became a licensed psychology examiner. She moved to Greenville, TN, to teach psychology courses and coach cheerleading at Tusculum College, now Tusculum University. In Greenville, she met the late David Tweed and they married after being together five years. Two years later, their daughter, Courtney Tweed, was born. She devoted her life to mental health awareness. She was an advocate for patients of all types, continuously striving to ensure people with physical or mental disabilities were treated equally and fairly. She worked more than 20 years at Greene Valley Developmental Center in Greenville, where she taught classes and lead the case management department. In addition, she taught part-time at Walter State Community College. She had such an impact on countless lives. She was always everyone's favorite professor. She was always kind and giving. Sandra served on the Tennessee Tech University's Parent's Association Board. She was always so proud to have a supportive role in her daughter's education. In the words of her daughter, "My mother was the most selfless person I know. She was more of a mother than I could ever ask for. She was more than I deserved. She made me strong. She showed me how to care. She was the most supportive parent anyone could ask for." She was also a wonderful daughter. She called her mother still everyday. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her mother, Jo-an Maceyko; brother, Scott Maceyko; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will always be missed. Her caring advice and open heart were always something people noticed and she was taken too soon. She is now at peace. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) at www.namitn.org. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
