Funeral services for Samuel Paul Talent, age 70 of Cookeville, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Keith Tosh will officiate. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. His family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time. Sam suddenly passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born May 1, 1952, in Putnam County, TN to the late Willis Talent and Lou Ella Bryant Talent. Sam was a loving husband, father, and pa. He attended Church on the Hill for many years and loved all of his brothers and sisters in Christ. He currently attended Life Church. He was a good and faithful servant to His Lord. He always put God first and he always made sure his family was taken care of. Sam had many passions throughout his life; he was an avid beef cattle farmer and loved farming with his family. He also had a passion for classic cars. Sam was a graduate of the Nashville Auto-Diesel College. He was retired from TVA with over 40 years of service. While at TVA, he worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Crane Inspector. He enjoyed his work life through his daily travels that lead to many wonderful friendly connections throughout the Tennessee Valley. Sam was an avid mechanic, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Norene Adkins Talent, whom he married on December 11, 1970; son, Sammy (Molly) Talent; daughter, Kelly Talent; sisters, Janie (Royce) Haney and Joanna (Ed) Green; and granddaughter, Bailey Talent all of Cookeville. As well as Vicky Haney, Paul (Melba) Haney, Becky (Mitchell) Jenkins, Mike (Shawna) Green, Amy (Matt) Profant, Tammy Adkins Hoover, Jon (Ashlee) Hoover, Grant Hoover, Rick Adkins, Wade (Amanda) Adkins, Wesley Adkins, Billy Adkins, Vernon Adkins, Harley Adkins, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. A host of special friends include the Gant Family, James "Cotton" Phy and Carolyn Phy, Albert Bilbrey, Donnie Savage, Philip Beasley, Ervin Maxwell, Randy Jones, Martin Fisher, Billy Hall, Beth Ray, and Mason Wade, and all his neighbors in the Spring Creek community. Pallbearers will be Rick Adkins, Albert Bilbrey, Jack Bryant, James Butler, James Horner, Blake Medlin, Lee Rainey, and Buddy Whitson. Honorary pallbearers will be all TVA employees.
