Sam Qualls

December 20, 1932 — October 5, 2023

Sam A. Qualls, passed peacefully from this life Thursday, October 5th at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 20th, 1932 as the middle child of seven, to Boyd and Bonnie (Benson) Qualls. He was a lifelong resident of Algood, Tennessee.

On May 21st, 1957, Sam married the love of his life, Earline Ford Qualls, and their bond remained unbreakable for an incredible 66 years. Their marriage is a testament to the enduring power of commitment and partnership. Their life together was marked by love, a commitment to the Lord, and countless shared memories.

Sam is survived by his spouse, Earline, their three children: Marsha Pauli, Kim Randolph, and Sammy Qualls, one sister, Linda Whiteaker, grand-children, Elizabeth, Matthew, Benjamin, Lindsey, Rebekah, Noel, Samantha, and Logan, and his 13 great grand-children, All of whom adored their beloved “Pappy.” He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers: Elwin and Lynon, his three sisters: Mary Dean, Comella, and Eulene, and his beloved Grandson, Marshall.

Along with Sam’s 3 kids, 9 grand-kids, and 13 great grand-kids, he was a friend and father figure to many. The family wants to thank Steve Oakley and Jerry Greer for their dedicated friendship, kindness, and compassion.

Anyone who knew Sam knew he had a love of farming. He started working on the farm at 7 years old. He raised cattle, chickens, goats, rabbits, horses, and quail. His grandchildren would always boast that he was a real life cowboy. Sam wasn’t just a farmer; he was a hero who served his country in the army from 1954-1956. He was also a dedicated Christian and member of the Algood Church of Christ. However, above all, his family was his greatest joy. He loved family meals and afternoons on the front porch. He was a pillar of strength for his family and a friend to all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and commitment that

will be cherished for generations to come.

A celebration of Sam’s life with military honors will be held on Monday, October 9th at 3pm at the Algood Family Event Center. His grandsons, Ben Pauli and Matt Suggs, will serve as officiants. The pallbearers who will lovingly carry Sam to his final resting place are Steven Oakley, Jamal Henley, Bill Copeland, Jerry Greer, Eddie Locke and Tony Whiteaker.

His family will receive friends Monday from 12pm until service time.

In honor of his love of horses, in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to Manna’s Hana Riding Center: a nonprofit organization that teaches riding skills and horse care to individuals with special needs.
