Ruth Nevins Johnson

Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Anna "Ruth" Nevins Johnson, age 93 of Cookeville and formerly of Anderson, Indiana and Venice, Florida, will be held Thursday May 18, 2017 at 10:30am EDT at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, FL. Ruth died Thursday May 5, 2017 in NHC Healthcare Cookeville. She was born October 23, 1923 in Bloomington Springs, TN to the late Luther and Tillie Rodgers Fields. She married Mayford Nevins in 1945 and shortly thereafter moved to Anderson, Indiana for employment and to start a family. Following Mayford's death, Ruth moved to Venice, Florida. She was a member of Venice Nokomis United Methodist Church. She met her second husband, Bob Johnson while living in Florida. She has been attending First Christian Church since moving to Cookeville in 2011. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Mayford Nevins, to whom she was married over 40 years, second husband, Bob Johnson, to whom she was married for 20 years; son, David Nevins; brothers Luther "Junior" Fields, Jr., Bill Fields and Bob Fields; and sisters, Eva Woodard, Emma Jean Woodard, Vera Hunter and Willene Massa. She is survived by son, Don Nevins and wife Stephanie of Baxter, TN; grandson, Aaron Martin of Fortville, IN; great grandchildren, Marissa and Addison Martin; and by sister, Frankie Massa of Lebanon, TN. Ruth is fondly remembered as a giving person. She gave frequently and generously to many charitable organizations.
