d. June 6, 2014

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Bowman, of Monterey, will be held Sunday June 8 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Welch Memorial Cemetery. After 92 years of faithful service Mrs. Bowman returned to her heavenly home on Friday afternoon June 6, 2014 in Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. She was born April 7, 1922 in Overton County, Tennessee to the late William Sullivan and Ova Phillips England. Ruby was a retired cook at Uffleman Elementary School where several generations enjoyed her peanut butter & syrup sandwiches and famous chocolate oatmeal cookies. She prepared many nutritious, healthy lunches with her co-workers, but those cookies and those sandwiches are most often recalled. Ruby loved to garden and cook. She enjoyed many hours outdoors taking care of her vegetables and her flowers. She delighted in preparing and sharing meals with her family and friends. She could make a beautiful quilt from any piece of fabric. She enjoyed fishing, football and The Family Feud. Ruby has been a member of Monterey First Baptist Church since 1958. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Granville and devoted son, Leonard; great grandson, Andrew Johnson; sister, Ruthie Lack; and brother, Otis England. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Tomas Depaulis of Nashville; son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Wanda Bowman of Monterey; daughter-in-law, Pat Bowman all of Monterey; she was adored by her six grandchildren, Missy (Wayne) Key, Eric (April) Bowman, Julianne (Larry) Melton, Brent (Elaine) Johnson, Jennifer (Roger) Phillips, and Nikki (Tom) Sughrue; 11-great grandchildren, Josh, Caleb and Eli Key, Savannah Byrd, Jeremiah Bowman and Rebecca Phillips, Ashley Melton, Justin Johnson, Ryan Phillips, Jordan Phillips, and Sophie Sughrue; and a great-great grandchild, Kaley Key; five brothers, Talmage (Naomi) England, James (Beatrice) England, Richard (Elenore) England, Earl (Charlene) England and Sullivan Jr. (Linda) England; two sisters, Jeanette (Amos) Phillips and Evelyn (Carlon) Phillips; special friends, Captola Hendrixson and Martha Bright; and a host of nieces nephews and extended family members.
