Roy Gene Fields passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on April 16, 1940, in Putnam County, TN, Roy lived a full life, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and music.
Roy was a devoted family man, survived by his loving wife, Mary Magdalene Allen Fields. He was loving father to Kim (David) White, Beverly (Wesley) Garren, Mark Fields, Dr. Jessica Fields (Juan Cruz), Kerry (Rhonda) Higgins, Sheila (David) Redmon, and Sherry (Matt) Derossitt. He was a cherished grandfather to twelve grandchildren and a beloved great-grandfather to eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Harvey Fields and LonaBelle Hayes Fields, his brothers, Raymond Fields, Albert, Benjamin, Charles, Franklin, and Billy Fields, and his sister, Mary Ellen Judd.
Roy was a man of service, both to his country and his community. He was an Army Veteran, serving two tours during the Korea and Vietnam Wars. After his military service, he continued to work hard, retiring as a truck driver with Dillon Transportation.
A man of faith, Roy was a regular attendee of Taylor's Seminary Freewill Baptist Church. His faith was a guiding force in his life, providing him with strength and comfort throughout his years.
Music was a significant part of Roy's life. He was a talented guitarist, with a particular love for country gospel. His love for music was infectious, and he often used it as a means to connect with others. His favorites included the likes of Johnny Cash, whose songs he would often play on his guitar.
In addition to his love for music, Roy was an avid reader. He found joy in the quiet moments spent with a good book.
Funeral services for Roy will be at 1 p.m. Friday September 29 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Bro. Kerry Higgins will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. His family will receive friends Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. and again Friday from 12 p.m. until time of service.
