Funeral services for Mr. Roy Cooper, age 87 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, November 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Coopertown Cemetery in Fentress County. Brother Mark Gaw will officiate. His family will receive friends Wednesday from 10am until service time at the church. Mr. Cooper went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County in Algood. He was born November 26, 1931 in Fentress Co. to the late Alfred and Martha Allred Cooper. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a tool and die maker for General Dynamics in Warren, MI. Roy and his beloved wife Norma were married for 63 years before her passing in April of this year. Roy and Norma loved to work together on their farm and enjoyed the outdoors. He particularly enjoyed operating his tractor. Roy had a special relationship with his brother in law, Billy who had Down's Syndrome. He graciously cared for Billy for many years and they enjoyed many fun times together. He loved to joke and cut up and always had a story to tell. Roy also restored a 1931 Model A Ford from the ground up. He was proud of this accomplishment and would often take the car to shows. He has been a member of Washington Ave. Baptist Church since moving to Cookeville in 1993. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma L. Warnat Cooper; brothers, Ray Cooper and Short Cooper; sisters, Hallie Waters and Vergie Jones; and by special brother-in-law, William "Billy" Sinclair Phillips II. He is survived by daughters, Lisa Elaine Cooper of Cookeville and Deborah Louise Cooper of Harrison Township, MI; son, Roy Jeffrey Cooper and wife Elizabeth Anne of Middletown, CT; grandchildren, Peter William Cooper, Mitchell Allard Cooper and Hallie Katherine Cooper; and by many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vacation Bible School, a favorite ministry of Norma for many years, c/o Washington Ave. Baptist Church, 1621 N. Washington Ave., Cookeville, TN 38501.
