Robert Sturgeon

October 22, 1954 — December 23, 2022

Mr. Robert Scott Sturgeon passed away Friday December 23, 2022 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, in Cookeville, TN. He was born October 22, 1954 in Rochester, NY to the late Robert and Patricia Coon Sturgeon. He moved to Gatlinburg, TN in the late 1970s to join the Gatlinburg Arts & Crafts community as a talented woodworker making cabinets and furniture, and later worked in Sevierville, TN for the US Postal service.

Bob enjoyed reading, writing, Sci-fi, history, watching tennis, and spending time on his computer chatting with friends and researching various topics of interest. Having graduated in 1973 from George Jr. Republic in Freeville, NY, he created a website in the early 2000s to help reunite the graduating class and share pictures and memories together.

He was an excellent chess player and taught his daughter the game at an early age, which they continued to play together throughout his life. He was a loving father, a devout Christian, and author of “Pulling Back the Veil”- a book about how God led man to salvation.

Bob also loved nature, and as a boy growing up in a suburb outside of Rochester, he spent much of his time outdoors running down beaten paths, climbing trees, and catching tadpoles in a nearby pond with his siblings. After moving to Tennessee, he continued to spend much of his time in nature hiking in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and later the Greenbrier became a weekend tradition with his wife and daughter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Sturgeon.

He is survived by daughter, Katie (Patrick) Sturgeon; brother, David Sturgeon; sisters, Patti Miller, Amy de Metsenaere, and Linda Sturgeon; and by niece, Rene Dunsmore.
