Robert Sommers

Mr. Robert Anthony Sommers, age 80 of Cookeville, died Monday September 25, 2023 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born February 11, 1943 in Schenectady, NY to the late Joseph and Josephine Locorini Sommers. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years.

His love for gardening was displayed in the wonderful yard and garden that surrounds his home. When he arrived in Tennessee, after years in the commercial building trade in Texas, he built his own home; over the years it came to be known as "the glass house".

He volunteered for various jobs at his church, Cookeville First United Methodist and at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. His support of his wife and her work with pet therapy in the area was a key to the success of that effort.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Dell Zimmerman Sommers; three wonderful children, Christina Marie (Gregory) Olin, Robert Christopher (Jeannie) Sommers and Thomas Bernard Sommers; and by ten grandchildren. He is also survived by an older brother, Richard J. Sommers; and by a younger sister, Patricia A. Barnett.

It is his desire to have no formal service. a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
