Rita Mae Carter

Funeral services for Mrs. Rita Mae Carter, age 75 of Algood, will be held Saturday, September 29th at 11 a.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Diantha S McLeod will officiate. Interment will follow in Algood Heritage Cemetery. Mrs. Carter's family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. She died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Bethesda Health Care Center. Born April 23, 1943 in Algood, TN to the late Bryson and Mary Frances Verble Myers. She was a 1960 graduate of Darwin High School. She was an employee at the former Acme Boot Factory and worked for many years in environmental services and lastly as an employee with Premier Diagnostic Imaging. Rita Mae is fondly remembered for her thoughtfulness, helpfulness and for having a big heart. She enjoyed bowling where she made many friends. She also enjoyed crocheting and cooking. She was a lifelong and active member of Burton's Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Idella Armstrong, Christine Goolsby and Shirley Jackson; and by brothers, Robert 'Bobby' Myers and James 'Wilmore' Myers. She is survived by her son, William Harrison Carter, III of Algood; daughter, April Carter of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Ashley (Brett) Carter, Brittany Carter and Jasmine Carter; great grandchildren, Kali and Aubrey Bice, Indya Carter, Devan Carter, Isaiah Carter and Elijah Carter; brother, Jerry Alfred Bryson, (Janice) Myers Jr of Cookeville; sisters, Jackie McMurry of Algood, Sue (Marvin) east Beidleman of Bristol and Peggy Barrociere of Cookeville; and by a host of nieces and nephews including a devoted nephew, Gary 'Rabbit' Goolsby. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Burton's Chapel United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1913 Dixie Ave., Cookeville, TN 38501.
