Funeral services for Richard Harry Mardis, 81, of Cookeville, will be held Tuesday November 27 at 1 p.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Yockey officiating. Interment will be in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Mardis died Saturday morning November 24, 2012 at Masters Health Care Center. He was born December 29, 1930 in Keokuk, Iowa to the late Harry Edmund and Sarah Grace Sergent Mardis. Mr. Mardis was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sparta. He served in the Army National Guard; was an avid Bridge player; and was a member of Woodmen of the World Cookeville Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Fersch Mardis, grandson, Daniel Mardis, and a brother, Donald Mardis. Mr. Mardis is survived by his wife, Darlene Oswald Mardis (whom he married May 28, 2005 in Sparta); three sons, James Mardis of Bettendorf, IA, David Mardis and Steven Mardis both of Pensacola, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bobby Maynard of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Jeff Maynard, Greg Maynard, David Mardis and Debbie Mardis; and sister, Sandra Cosier of Bettendorf, IA Pallbearers will be family and friends.
