COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Dr. Richard W. Dycus, a dedicated and respected husband, father, brother, church member and dentist, passed away on October 6, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in May of 1961, in Davidson County, Tennessee. Richard was a graduate of Madison High School in Nashville. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Tennessee Tech University in 1983 and went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee Memphis with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1987 where he laid the foundation for a distinguished career in dentistry.

From 1989 until his retirement in 2023, Dr. Dycus operated a dental practice in Cookeville, TN, earning a distinguished reputation among his peers and the community. His contributions to the field of dentistry included serving as the past president of both the Tennessee Dental Association and the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry as well as Trustee to the TDA and on several Councils and Committees at the local, state, and national level, marking him as a leader and an advocate for dental health in the state and nation.

Dr. Dycus had a wide array of interests that extended beyond his professional pursuits. He was passionate about politics, history, and genealogy, and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Dr. Dycus was a member of the Order of the Arrow and had earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Palms. A longtime member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, he served as an Elder, demonstrating his commitment to his faith and community.

His legacy continues thru his beloved wife of 40+ years, Patricia (Patty) M. Dycus; a daughter, Megan E. Dycus; a son, William W.W. Dycus; and brothers, Mark E. Dycus and his wife Alicia of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, David K. Dycus and his wife Amanda of Huntsville, Alabama, and Aunt, Louise W. Kemp of Greensboro NC. Additionally, he is survived by many nieces and nephews, who will cherish his memory.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Foy W. Dycus and Peggy K. Dycus.

Visitation will be held at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, located at 521 South Jefferson Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501. The visitation is scheduled for October 10, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on October 11, 2024, from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at the church at 11:00 a.m. Bro. James Lane will officiate.

Interment will also be held Friday, at 4:00 p.m., at Dycus Family Cemetery in the Willette community of Macon County, TN.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Fund or Red Cross for disaster relief for those affected by Hurricane Helene.
