COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Rev. Richard Bond, a beloved minister and cherished member of the community, departed this world on October 30, 2024, at the age 75. Born on September 26, 1949, Richard lived a life that was a testament to faith, service, and love.

Richard's journey in ministry began with a profound desire to serve others and spread the love of God. He faithfully ministered at three different churches throughout his remarkable career. He served 45 years at the Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Algood, TN.  Also, for 33 years, he served at the Hickory Valley United Methodist and Presbyterian Church in White County, TN. He served at Dry Valley Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Cookeville as well His gentle spirit and unwavering faith inspired many, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him.

One of the most poignant memories of his ministry occurred on September 15, 2024, when he baptized eight individuals on the Caney Fork River. This moment, marking the last day he served as a vocational minister, encapsulated his life's work-bringing people closer to God and fostering their spiritual journeys.

A proud graduate of Maryville High School, Richard furthered his education at Maryville College and went on to earn a master's degree from Bethel University, equipping him for a life dedicated to ministry and service. He approached life with an infectious love and joy, always eager to share his faith with others.

Outside of his ministerial duties, Richard found solace and joy in working outside. His love for gardening filled his days with beauty, as he nurtured vibrant flower beds and enjoyed the simple pleasures life offered. He also had a passion for restoring old cars, a hobby that allowed him to embrace his creativity and craftsmanship.

Richard leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his wife of six years, Marie Buck Bond; his son, Rick Bond, and daughter-in-law, Crystal, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Trey Bond, Cody Wright, and Chelsea Wright; and nine great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Vivian (Danny) Stallings, Daisy Tucker, Judy Blackman, Sue Reagan, and Tammy Henley, as well as several nephews. Richard shared a special bond with his dear friend, Ron Graves, who has stood by him through thick and thin.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Charles and Dorothy Hitch Bond, and his first wife, Donna Ann Kidwell Bond.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on November 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Cookeville Chapel, located at 59 N Jefferson Avenue, Cookeville, TN 38501. 

A graveside service and interment will be held at Algood City Cemetery at a later date.

Rev. Richard Bond's legacy of love, faith, and dedication lives on in the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but remembered with fondness and gratitude. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 180 E Main St, Algood, TN 38506.
