Rev. Don Wynn

Funeral services for Rev. Don Wynn, age 75, of Cookeville, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Colonial View Baptist Church on West Cemetery Rd. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 30 at the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home and again on Saturday from 1 pm. Until time of Service at the church. Bro. Wynn died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born March 6, 1935 in Poplar Bluff MO to the late Carl Everett Wynn and Lula Mae Mahaffey. Don had spent 35 years in the automobile business primarily in Alexandria LA, Ruston LA and Memphis TN. Bro. Don was a member of the Westhaven Baptist Church and an ordained Southern Baptist Minister. He and his wife Barbara moved to Cookeville some 26 years ago. Bro. Don served his church in Ruston LA as a leader of the Royal Ambassadors, Junior Deacon, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher. After moving to Cookeville Bro. Wynn became a Lay Minister before he was ordained as a minister of the gospel at the age of 57. He became a Church Planter and was known as a teaching preacher. For the last several years he has served as pastor of five churches in the area. Those churches are University Heights Baptist, Bear Creek Baptist, Colonial View Baptist and Westhaven Baptist and the Laurel Creek Mission. He has worked with the Upper Cumberland Development District for the past five years. Bro. Wynn was also a Shriner and Past Master of Masonic Lodge 398 in Alexandria LA. He has served two terms as moderator of the Stone Association of Southern Baptists here in Cookeville. He is also a veteran of the United States Army where he served his country as a paratrooper. His family includes his wife of 56 years, Barbara Wynn; one son, William Donald Wynn II of Texas; one daughter, Vicki Wynn Beck of Cookeville; one brother, Carl Everett Wynn Jr. of Alexandria LA; and three grandchildren, William Roy Beck, Emily Annell Beck and Sarah Jean-Marie Beck all of Cookeville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Margaret Wynn Whitson and Dorothy Wynn Hoffman. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Westhaven Baptist Church Building Fund or the Stone Association Building Fund. Rev. Danny Hembree, Rev. Al Gaspard, Rev. Earl Dirkson and Dr. Joe Wiles will officiate at the services.
