Reba Hunter

April 1, 1935 — January 10, 2022

Funeral services for Mrs. Reba Hunter, age 86 of Cookeville, will be held Friday, January 14th at 12:00 p.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastor Keith Tosh will officiate. Interment will follow in Algood City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Hunter passed from this life into Glory Monday January 10, 2022 at her residence in the loving care of her family. She was born April 1, 1935 in Jackson County, TN to the late Andrew P. and Sallie Chaffin Mirirah Gentry. She worked at numerous places in her lifetime; Cookeville Shirt Factory, Wilson's Sporting Goods, Acme Boot, and later, she and some close friends started an alteration shop named Stitch N Sew. People came from all over for the stitchery (and the smiles). Everyone loved her, especially her family, and she loved them back with everything in her. Reba was also a sitter later in life for a dear friend in which the family came to depend on very much until she retired from all work at age 79. She enjoyed working so much for so many years but decided it was time to enjoy herself for a while. She was beautiful inside and out. She was in the homecoming court her sophomore year of high school. She always wanted to know what was happening with the other person, their family, and how she could help someone else. She really did not realize just how special she was but everyone around her sure did. She was a wonderful and generous Christian lady. She attended Bangham Heights Baptist Church and Vine Branch Community Church. She was selfless and devoted to her family. She was an excellent cook and cooked at least once weekly for the family. She cooked enough for an army but for the majority of her life, her servings of food were eaten out of a teacup (we could all learn from her). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Gary Eugene Hunter and granddaughter, Tara Hunter, Brothers, Doyle Gentry and Everett Gentry, and nephews Alex and Michael Horn . Reba is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Shannon Hunter of Cookeville; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Gary Nash of Cookeville; grandchildren, Matt Hunter (Cookeville), Trey Hunter (Cookeville), Chase (Kelsey) Hunter (Spring Hill, TN)and Samantha Hunter (Cookeville); great grandchildren, Ava and Aiden Hunter of Cookeville, Makenna and Madi Hunter of Cookeville, and Elise Hunter of Spring Hill, TN, a loving sister, Reva Johnson of Cookeville, nieces Betty Gentry Chaffin and Wanda Faye Grasty and nephews Jimmy Dale Horn, Darrell Gentry, Danny Horn, and niece, Pam Bailey. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111. Share memories and condolences at www.hhhfunerals.com.
