Polly Romine

d. May 3, 2018

Polly Sue (Porter) Romine 84, passed in peace at His House of Cookeville, TN on Thursday May 3, 2018. She was born on February 4, 1934 and resided in Columbia, TN until 1978 when she relocated to Buffalo, NY for "seven long winters". Retirement brought her to Lake Tansi in Crossville, TN for 27 years followed by 6 years of being cared for by her daughter and family in Cookeville, TN. A woman with a heart for happiness, Polly found great joy creating memories around her dinner table. She dearly loved lavishing family and friends with her countless favorites. The Lake Tansi Neighbors and Newcomers Club and Christian Women's Association were fortunate to have her serve as president and in other capacities. Her service as secretary of the Class of 1952 Columbia Central High School Reunion Committee was among her favorite activities. It was her cherished honor for 12 years to play the piano for the Lake Tansi Community and RV Park churches. Polly worked as secretary at Farm Bureau and Monsanto; then enjoyed homemaking and caring for two special kids, Jackie and Jimmy, before retirement. Polly is survived by her sons, Ernest Keith (Catie) Romine of Nashville, Barry Kent (Bridgett) Romine of Hampshire; daughter, Kimberly Elizabeth (Lito) Mendoza of Cookeville; grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Page of Hampshire, Emily (Richard) Ferguson of Columbia, Jennifer (Jason) Johns of Columbia, Alan (Tiffany) Romine of Columbia, Sarah Mendoza of Cookeville, and Angela Mendoza of Cookeville; great-grandchildren, Morgan Wood, Jed Page, Sadie Page, Jackson Johns, Jonah Johns, and Chloe Romine. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Pinie Elizabeth Porter; father, Thomas Porter; and husband, Ernest Romine of 57 years. Polly appreciated big jewelry and bigger hats. Both are welcome as we celebrate her journey to Glory. There are people you can clearly see were put in your life for a specific reason. Brenda Smith, Carla Bundrant, Donna Peak, Caroline Bain, Janet Thornsberry, Stephanie Gallager and Teresa Dillehay, thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus. You cared for mom as if she were your own. Sincere appreciation is also due to Connie and Jack Mitchell as well as their committed staff and caring residents of His House. You all as well as Kindred Hospice were a safe haven for Mom while she prepared to meet Jesus. Funeral services will be held Sunday May 6 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Davidson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be Monday at 12 noon at Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia, TN. Polly's family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to His House, 570 State Street or Heart of the Cumberland, PO Box 2474 Cookeville, TN 38501.
