Funeral services for Mr. Phillip Gary Smith, age 70 of Cookeville, will be held Wednesday, August 10th at 1:00 p.m. the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Pastor Charles Allen will officiate. His family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Smith died suddenly Thursday afternoon, August 4, 2022 due to a medical episode that resulted in a motor vehicle accident. He was born June 14, 1952 in Cookeville to the late James "Ralph" Smith and Essie Dee Holloway Smith. Phil was a 1970 graduate of Putnam County Senior High and a 1975 graduate of the University of Tennessee and remained a Tennessee Vols fan throughout his life. He worked in the family business, Smith Electric which his father Ralph founded in 1975. Much like his father, Phil was a godly man who worked hard and was highly regarded in the community. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially in the Great Smoky Mountains with his wife Sherry. He cherished time spent with family, especially his weekly lunches with his daughter Ashley. He also enjoyed working on his farm, tending to cattle. He was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother in law, Bill Doyle and by mother and father in law, Zack Hickey and Nola Lafever Hickey. Phil is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sherry Hickey Smith; daughters, Ashley Chadwell and husband Lee and Mollie Smith, all of Cookeville; sons, Josh and Jon Williams; grandchildren, Holden Lee, Dylon Dishman; Davani Williams and Laiklyn Williams; great grandchild, Rowan Lee; sisters, Sarah Doyle of Greer, SC and Beverly Nivens and husband, Chuck, of Cookeville; and by a host of nieces and nephews. Chris Sparks, Eddie Wilson, Franklin Lewis, Ronnie Robinson, Roger Easterly, David Wilson and Marshall Cass will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Cumberlands Office, 390 South Lowe Avenue, Suite I, Cookeville, TN 38501 and/or to Saint Thomas Hospital Foundation Heart Fund, 4220 Harding Road, Nashville, TN 37205.
