COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Mr. Peter Alden Countryman, 81, passed very peacefully at his Cookeville home, with his beloved wife, Jessie, and his family by his side on December 5,2024.
He was born on Friday, May 7, 1943 in Oak Park, Illinois to Dr. Morton Alden Countryman and Ruth Virginia (Koelle) Countryman.
Peter and his family moved to Spring City, Tennessee and he graduated high school on May 18, 1962.
Peter enlisted in the army on June 12, 1962 at The US Army Reception Station in Columbia, South Carolina. He graduated from basic training in Augusta, Georgia on August 18, 1962. He served in Germany from November 1963 until being released back to The United States in May of 1966. He received an honorable discharge from inactive reserves on May 31,1968.
Peter graduated from Tennessee Technological University on August 11, 1990 majoring in special education.
He was preceded in death by his birth mother, Ruth Virginia (Koelle) Countryman, his step-mother, Elise L. Chaplin Countryman, his father, Doctor Morton Alden Countryman, his first wife, Patricia Ann McCoy Countryman and a step-daughter- in-law, Phyllis Brewington.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jessie Medley Brewington Countryman, his sister, Nancy Virginia Martindale (husband, Charles) nephew, James Alden Countryman, niece, Rebecca Countryman, his two-step daughters, Cynthia Brewington Strong(husband, Gary Strong) and Lisa Brewington White, his two-step sons, James David Brewington(wife, Beverly Brewington) and Joe Marvin Brewington (wife,Tisha Brewington).
He was loved by his 11 step- grandchildren and ten step- great grandchildren.
Peter’s memory will be honored by a private graveside ceremony for immediate family only on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Rodgers Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be step-grandsons, James Thomas Strong, Connor James Brewington, step-sons, James David Brewington and Joe Marvin Brewington and step- son- in-law, Gary J Strong.
The life of Peter Alden Countryman serves as a reminder of the love and strength of family, the importance of hard work, and the joy found in the simple pleasures of life. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
