Funeral services for Cleamon "Pete" Carr, 90 of Baxter, Tennessee will be held at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner in Baxter, Tennessee on Tuesday, February 21st. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 11am and the funeral service will begin at 1pm. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetary. Mr. Pete Carr passed away, peacefully surrounded by his family, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on the morning of Sunday, February 19, 2017. He was born January 29, 1927 in Silver Point, Tennessee to the late Boss Carr and Vennie Hickey Carr of Silver Point, Tennessee. After moving to Plant City, Florida in 1940, he worked as the shop foreman at Reeves Steel Inc. in Tampa, Florida for 40 years. Reeves Steel manufactured and installed bleachers and grandstands all across the country for major events including but not limited to Daytona, Talladega, and Charlotte Super Speedways as well as for the Masters held at Augusta National Golf Club. He met and married Florence Fuquay Carr in 1947 and raised their family in Plant City, Florida until retiring to Tennessee in 1985. After he moved back to Baxter, Tennessee, he worked part-time with Jimmy Thomas Construction until his full retirement. He enjoyed working in his garden and watching college football. His favorite team was the Florida State Seminoles. He was a member of Samaria Church of Christ and he loved his church family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Fuquay Carr, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by one sister, Zelda Kelley of Plant City, Florida, two sons and daughters in law, Jimmy and Judy Carr of Baxter, Tennessee and Paul and Peggy Carr of Paragould, Arkansas, four grandchildren, Kimberly Ferguson of Cookeville, Tennessee, Tim Carr and wife Dana Carr of Baxter, Tennessee, Michael Carr of Paragould, Arkansas, Tamie Nicely and husband Henry Nicely of Paragould, Arkansas, eight great grandchildren, Troy and Brock Ferguson of Cookeville, Tennessee, Amelia and Libby Carr of Baxter, Tennessee, Blayne, Hailey, Abbey and Brody Nicely of Paragould, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Tim Carr, Glen Taylor, Troy Ferguson, Brock Ferguson, Steve Wilkerson and Johnny Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Slagle and JD Holman. Due to the absence of David Eldridge, Samaria Church of Christ evangelist, the family has requested that Mark Welte, one of the elders of Samaria Church of Christ, to officiate the service. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the staff members of NHC and Cookeville Regional Medical Center 6th North Floor for their exceptional care given to their loved one.
