Perry Beaty

Funeral services for Mr. Perry Beaty, age 79 of Monterey will be held Wednesday January 28, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Eugene McCowan and Harry Gene Harris will officiate. Interment will follow in Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Perry's family will receive friends Wednesday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Perry died Sunday morning January 25, 2015 at his home. He was born March 19, 1935 in Monterey, TN to the late Carson and Dessie Phipps Beaty. Perry worked in mining for 17 years for the former Clinchfield and Clear Creek Coal Companies. He retired from the Putnam County School System as custodian at Uffelman Elementary School in Monterey after 16 years of service. Perry was a member of the Monterey Volunteer Fire Department for over 42 years, serving as assistant chief for 25 years. He was of the Baptist Faith; an avid fisherman and loved to whittle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Whiteaker; and four brothers, Millard Beaty, Tom Beaty, Jimmy Beaty, and Johnny Beaty. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Shirley "Petie" Beaty; (whom he married November 7, 1981 in Overton County, TN); two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Marilyn Beaty of Monterey and Brad and Karla Beaty of Sparta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Danny Settle of Joelton, TN and Kim and James Greer of Cookeville; grandchildren, Farrah (Birch) Gentry, Seth Parrott, of Monterey, Beth Greer and Eli Greer, of Cookeville; great grandchild, Katherine Grace Gentry; two sisters, Dimple (John) Looper of Monterey, and Wanda (Deloy) Williams of Lebanon; special niece and nephew, Jacqueline and Ethan Flowers and Lane Looper. Pallbearers will be members of the Monterey Fire Department.
