Peggy Barbour

Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Dean Barbour, age 88, of Cookeville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday January 20 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Barbour passed away Thursday January 18, 2018 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was born January 9, 1930 in Jonesboro, AR to the late Valasta Dean Penix. Mrs. Barbour led a very active life that included many interests. She was a teacher at Cookeville Junior High School, having received her bachelor's degree in Education from Arkansas State and her Master's degree in Education from Tennessee Tech University. She and her husband, Earl owned Twin Rivers Furniture Manufacturing, where she had the opportunity to help people with interior decorating. An active member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church, she served in many ministries of the church. She organized an "IHOP Group" of widowed friends who gathered regularly to support and encourage each other. Later in life she became an avid sports fan where she enjoyed watching football, basketball and baseball with her favorite being the Atlanta Braves. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Dean Barbour of Old Hickory, TN; son, Terrance Young Barbour of Cookeville; and grandchildren, Macie Dean Parsons of Atlanta, GA and Ryan Christopher Parsons of Cookeville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Young Barbour. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
