Funeral services for Mr. Paul Dyer, 85 of Cookeville, will be held at 3pm Thursday, October 23 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro Clarence Deloach officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10am until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Dyer died Tuesday morning October 21, 2014 at Bethesda Health Care Center. He was born May 5, 1929 in the Double Springs Community of Putnam County, TN to the late Russell and Kitty Belle Johnson Dyer. Mr. Dyer was a charter member of the Bussell Church of Christ where he had served as a bible teacher and song leader. Mr. Dyer worked for many years with his sons as a carpenter. He and his brother, Ralph Dyer established Dyer Funeral Home in 1966 where they served the community until their retirement. He was a long-time member of Cookeville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, often with his family for different occasions. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth June Neely Dyer; brother, Ralph Dyer; two sisters, Frances Tribble and Peggy Richardson; and son, Robert (Bob) Dyer (who died Monday October 20, 2014), and step-son Mike Loftis. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joan Pendergrass Loftis Dyer (whom he married April 14, 1991 in Cookeville); son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Janet Dyer of Cookeville; three step-sons, Steve (wife Pat) Loftis of Seneca, SC, Mark (wife Tammy) Loftis of Cookeville, and Alan (wife Angie) Loftis of Cookeville; step-daughter, Judy (husband Dale) Flatt of Cookeville; daughter-in-law, Martha Dyer of Cookeville; step daughter-in-law, Linda Loftis of Cookeville; six grandchildren, Jason (wife Carla) Dyer, Chad (wife Renea) Dyer, Dan (wife Erica) Dyer, Emily (husband Shawn) Stebing, Mark Dyer, and Hethe (wife Lindsay) Dyer; nine great-grandchildren;10 step-grandchildren; and13 step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Shawn Stebing, Jason, Chad, Dan, Hethe, and Mark Dyer.
